After graduating in acting from the Max-Reinhardt-Seminar in Vienna, August Zirner went on to make a name for himself in a wide range of productions. He has worked with renowned directors such as Volker Schlöndorff (1990, "Homo Faber"), Doris Dörrie (1989, "Geld") and Rainer Kaufmann (1995, "Stadtgespräch" and 1997, "Die Apothekerin").

August Zirner has been a familiar face in television since 1989 and has proved himself in several leading roles; Roland Suso Richter's "Eiskalte Liebe" (1995), and Margaretha von Trotta's "Winterkind" (1997). In
1998 Zirner appeared in the television production "Der Hahn ist tot", directed by Hermine Huntgeburth. In his latest role, he plays the
leading character in Johannes Fabrick's television film "Hinter verschlossenen Türen".

Besides his career in film and television, Zirner has also graced many stages in his work as a stage actor. August Zirner played the part of Steve Arnold in Helmut Griem's "Der Fall Furtwängler" at the "Theater
in der Josephstadt", Vienna.

August Zirner plays the part of Captain Ed Martin in István Szabó's TAKING SIDES.
