The Art Department consists of the Production Designer (Ken Adam), Art Director (Anja Müller), their assistants (Katharina Loges, Pierre Brayard), the draughtsmen (Udo Scharnowski, Gisela Schultze) and the Art Department Coordinator (Sabine Engelberg).

The Production Designer's aim is to conceptualise the script visually. His/her first task is to identify locations which are stylistically and architecturally suitable for the shoot.

Once locations have been scouted, the Production Designer designs and sketches the sets which are to be used at the selected locations.

These are given to the draughtsman who then transcribe these sketches into technical drawings which in turn inform the set-builders as to what must be built and/ or altered, either in studio or on "location". The Art Director acts as the right-hand to the Production Designer, ensuring that his/her creative vision is implemented, while also functioning as an intermediary between the Art Department, the set-builders, carpenters and painters.

The colour-scheme and ambience of the set is also determined by the Art Depart-ment, which works hand in hand with the Set decoration and Property Departments to achieve successful results.
